At long last … a schedule
Who asked for a game-by-game breakdown of the 2022-23 Louisville men’s basketball schedule? I did. That’s who.
Before we get down to the nitty-gritty, just think about this moment. The schedule release for a first-year coach is a milestone, a certain certification that, yeah, they’re about to coach real games. Kenny Payne is the head coach of Louisville men’s basketball, and he has his first team built. That’s some history. The kicker: They open against Scotty Davenport’s Bellarmine, a tricky but cool game. This is the first time Bellarmine and Louisville will play with the Knights as a Division I program, and it’ll be with two coaches owning deep ties to U of L hoops history.
I used to make this commentary when I’d guest-host radio shows on ESPN Louisville: The proliferation of video games in our culture has made it really tough for some of us — including me — to enjoy the moments in front of us. A lot of us want to simulate ahead and get to the good parts. Well, just enjoy this week for what it is, the chance to look out over a 31-game schedule and think, this is the first schedule for your team’s historically significant new coach.
