I have a rule about October. Nothing we see in the official preseason month of college basketball is permissible in the case for or against a team. It’s with that in mind that I present to you four observations from Sunday’s Red-White scrimmage.
Louisville is very much a work in progress, and the efforts from the coaching staff seem to have a building-for-the-future vibe to them. We discussed the expectation-setting work in previous newsletters. Kenny Payne repeatedly making comments to the effect of “keep supporting the team, win or lose” is a pretty clear indication that he understands there’s a real chance this squad could struggle. But that doesn’t mean he is going to just gloss over this season, especially because there are some promising pieces for him to work with.
Let’s dive into four takeaways from the scrimmage, and Thursday’s newsletter will have a deeper dive on a fifth topic.
